Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
KINSTON, NC - Myrtle Beach was only able to collect three hits in their 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Kinston Indians Wednesday night at Grainger Stadium. K-Tribe pitchers faced just two over the minimum as they shutout the Birds in the third game of four in Kinston.
The Indians plated their first run in the third when Tim Fedroff singled home Roman Pena from third base. That was the only earned run Pelican starter Jacob Thompson would allow on the night.
In the fourth, Doug Pickens scored from third on an error by Myrtle Beach third baseman Donell Linares. The groundball would have been the final out of the inning which made the run unearned.
Kinston closed out their scoring with another run in the eighth off Tommy Palica. Adam White, pinch-running for Ole Sheldon, scored on a base hit from Doug Pickens to put the Indians up 3-0.
Thompson (5-4) went six innings in his start for the Pelicans, and he allowed two runs on nine hits in a losing effort. Chris Jones (1-0) picked up the win in his Kinston debut allowing just three hits over six shutout innings. He also struck out seven while walking only one. David Roberts (4) picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The series concludes Thursday night when the Pelicans send lefty Cole Rohrbough to the mound against right-hander Brian Price. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. The Pelicans return home to open a seven-game homestand on Friday. The First 1,000 fans will receive a Pelicans Webkinz. Tickets are available by calling the Pelicans' box office at (843) 918-6000.
