Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - Winston-Salem's offensive struggles continued as Potomac cruised to a 9-1 victory on a wet Wednesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Nationals starting pitcher Tom Milone (10-4) was the beneficiary of the stagnant Dash attack as he worked five innings and allowed one run on three hits to collect his 10th win of the season. Winston-Salem has managed just 19 runs in their last 11 games and is 4-7 during that stretch.

The Dash plated their lone run in the bottom of the second inning when Brent Morel led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a pass ball by Milone. Two outs later, Sergio Morales delivered a run-scoring double to put Winston-Salem in front 1-0. It was the first extra-base hit and second RBI for Morales, who was in his seventh game since being promoted from Low-A Kannapolis.

Potomac answered right back in the top of the next inning against Anthony Carter. Michael Martinez reached on a walk and Danny Espinosa doubled to put runners in scoring position. Jesus Valdez followed with a two-run single to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead.

As rain began to fall in the top of the sixth inning, the Nationals attack hit full stride. Tim Pahuta led off with a walk and Devin Ivany followed with a two-run home run. Ivany finished with four hits and three RBI. Dan Nelson made it back-to-back round trippers as he followed with the solo shot to give Potomac a 5-1 advantage. As Nelson touched the plate in a downpour, the umpires halted the game.

Both starting pitchers were lifted from the game following the 47 minute delay, but the Nationals offense continued to pour it on with three more runs against reliever Ryan Rote to extend their lead to 8-1. Carter (11-6), who continues to pace the league in wins, suffered the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits.

The Dash and Nationals conclude their regular season series with the finale of this four-game set on Thursday night at Wake Forest baseball Park. Winston-Salem will send LHP Justin Edwards (4-2, 4.47) to the mound while Potomac is expected to turn to RHP Brad Peacock (2-1, 4.71). The first pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.

The Dash will also host Thirsty Thursday at Wake Forest Baseball Park on August 20 as the Dash concludes their series with the Nationals.
