Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

LYNCHBURG, VA - After rain resulted in a suspended game between the Pelicans and the Hillcats on Wednesday, the two teams resumed play with the game tied at three on Thursday night in the first of two from City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA. The game was slated to go seven but after four innings of resumed play the game remained tied.

The Pelicans broke the tie with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. Robert Marcial singled to begin the inning and scored on an RBI double by Freddie Freeman. Three batters later Michael Fisher would single home another run to put the Pelicans up 5-3.

The Hillcats came back in the bottom of the inning plating three of their own after Pelicans reliever Tyler Wilson walked the bases loaded with one out in the inning. The Pelicans then went to the bullpen for lefty Tommy Palica who induced a fielder's choice groundout by Alex Presley which scored a run before Jose De Los Santos singled to tie the game. The next man up , Jordy Mercer, ripped an RBI single past Donell Linares at third which scored Presley for the winning run and a 6-5 final.

R.J. Rodriguez (2-0) got the win pitching the final inning in relief for the Hillcats despite allowing two runs on three hits. Palica (2-2) took the loss without getting charged with a run.
