Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, got a dominating pitching performance Friday, jumping out to a 4-1 series opening win against the Frederick Keys at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

Nick McBride, Zach Osborne and Ben Rowen combined for the pitching gem. McBride went the first six innings of the game, throwing only 58 pitches. He allowed one unearned run in the second inning when a passed ball brought in Jeremy Nowak from third. That made it 1-0 Frederick. No further Keys batters reached after a walk to Trent Mummey in the third. The Pelicans retired the last 20 Frederick batters in the game.

Myrtle Beach struck back with a vengeance from there with a two-run homerun from Hanser Alberto in the third inning. The shot came off Keys starter Tim Berry, who allowed three earned in six innings. That made it 2-1.

Things remained tied until the sixth inning when the Birds plated two more with two outs. Jeremy Williams came through with an RBI single to score Chris Grayson, in his Pelicans debut, for a 3-1 advantage. Grayson came in while running hard the whole way after a grounder kicked away from Tyler Townsend at first base. Williams later scored on a single and an error by Townsend from Santiago Chirino.

With a 4-1 lead, Osborne inherited the game and pitched two perfect before a 1-2-3 ninth from Ben Rowen.

The win moves Myrtle Beach to 24-17 and drops Frederick to 19-21. Tomorrow Joe Van Meter takes the ball for the Pelicans. Elvis Andrus bobbleheads will go out to the first 1,000 fans in attendance and the three millionth fan in Pelicans regular season history is expected to be crowned. Don't miss the fun at 7:05.
