Schlosser Snaps Scoreless Streak, Hillcats Win 7-2

Zebulon, NC - The second-best scoreless inning streak in Hillcats history came to an end in the bottom of the first inning, but RHP Gus Schlosser still pitched well enough to lead the Hillcats to a 7-2 win over the Mudcats tonight. Schlosser gave up two runs in five innings, and earned his league leading 12th win of the season.
The Hillcats gave Schlosser a one-run lead in the top of the first inning. Mycal Jones reached on a hit by pitch. Three batters later, Chris Garcia doubled him home. It was Garcia's 48th RBI of the season, 1-0 Lynchburg.
Schlosser entered the game with four straight scoreless starts immediately behind him and a streak of 28.1 consecutive blank innings. He promptly gave up a double to the leadoff man, Tony Wolters. Wolters was sacrificed to third base. Schlosser then got Giovanny Urshela to ground out to third base, holding Wolters at third base for a moment. The next batter, Aguilar, doubled to tie the game at 1-1 and snap Schlosser's streak.
David Rohm put the Hillcats back on top 2-1 with a solo homer in the second inning.
Meanwhile, Schlosser went on to retire 10 batters in a row from the last out of the first through the final out of the fourth. The leadoff man in the fifth reached with a single and eventually came around to score for the Mudcats. That tied the game 2-2.
Lynchburg did the rest of the scoring, beginning with two runs in the sixth. Dan Brewer doubled in Nick Ahmed to give the Hillcats a 3-2 lead and the scored on Adam Milligan's single two batters later. Lynchburg led 4-2.
The lead expanded in the ninth inning. Three insurance runs crossed for the HIllcats highlighted by a two-run double for Jones.
RHP Juan Jamie shut the door in the ninth for the Hillcats, finishing his league-best 34th game of the season.
Schlosser (12-4) earned the win, while RHP Will Roberts (4-7) suffered the loss for the Mudcats.
The Hillcats are now 20-21 in the second half after snapping a three-game losing streak tonight.
Game two of the series is set for tomorrow at 6:15pm at Five County Stadium. RHP Cody Martin (11-7, 3.02) will start for the Hillcats against RHP Jordan Cooper (6-4, 3.92) for the Mudcast.
