Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick could not get anything going offensively and their frustration boiled over as both manager Orlando Gomez and RF Steve Bumbry were tossed in a series opening 4-1 defeat in Myrtle Beach. The last 20 Keys batters to step to the plate were retired in the contest.
The Keys grabbed the early lead in the second inning as DH Jeremy Nowak jumped on a first pitch fastball and doubled on a hop over the left field wall. 2B Travis Adair alertly advanced the runner with a ground ball to second base. A batter later Bumbry struck out swinging but the ball got to the backstop and Nowak scored. Little did the Keys know that Nowak's double would be their last hit of the game.
Myrtle Beach answered in the third inning as the speedy 2B Odubel Herrera singled to left field with one out. Thinking he was on the move, the Keys pitched out with consecutive pitches to open the next at-bat. The runner stayed put, and with a 2-0 pitch SS Hanser Alberto homered into the left field bleachers. The Pelicans led 2-1.
Gomez was tossed in the sixth inning as with a runner at second base and two down Pelicans RF Jimmy Williams hit a broken bat infield single off the glove of Keys 1B Tyler Townsend. The runner Chris Grayson did not stop running and Townsend fired home. The throw was in time but the tag was ruled to not be and that ignited an argument at home. A throwing error later in the inning would plate a fourth Pelicans run.
Bumbry was tossed arguing a check swing ruled to have gone too far for strike three.
The series continues Saturday night, August 4th at 7:05 p.m. with RHP Tyler Wilson getting the starting nod for Frederick. Coverage begins 20-minutes earlier on 1450-AM The Source.
Dylan Bundy is slated to start on the mound for the Keys when they return home Tuesday, August 7th to take on the Lynchburg Hillcats in Frederick. First pitch is 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Box Office at 301-815-9939 or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
