Zebulon, NC - The Lynchburg Hillcats snapped a three-game skid by scoring five runs over the final four innings to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 7-2 in front of 4,770 on Friday night at Five County Stadium. Carolina (21-20, 53-58) dropped its second in a row. Lynchburg improved to 20-21 in the second half, and 59-52 overall.

Gus Schlosser (12-4) held the Mudcats to two runs over five innings, allowing four hits. Three relievers combined to hold Carolina to one hit over the final four innings.

Will Roberts (4-7) dealt six innings in the loss. The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits. He struck out six without allowing a walk.

Lynchburg never trailed in the game, going ahead 1-0 on a two-out double by Chris Garcia in the first inning. David Rohm homered to left in the second inning, putting the Hillcats up 2-1. A two-run sixth, and three more runs in the ninth, finished off the scoring.

Defensive miscues in the ninth led to the big inning. Lynchburg saw Chad Comer move into scoring position thanks to a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch. A misplayed fielder's choice on a groundball to short put runners at the corners with nobody out. A suicide squeeze bunt by Bobby Stevens drove in one run, and a throwing error during the play moved two more into scoring position. Mycal Jones lined a double to the left field corner to finish scoring.

The Mudcats received doubles from Jesus Aguilar and Todd Hankins to bring across a run in the first and fifth innings respectively.

The Mudcats face the Lynchburg Hillcats for the second of three on Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. The Mudcats will give away free lunch bags to the first 1,200 kids, ages 14 and under. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
