
Pelicans make last trip to Fort Worth in first half

The Pelicans come into this series against Fort Worth having already won five of six games against the Cats this season. Pensacola has won six of their last ten games and are gaining ground on division leading Coastal Bend.. The Pelicans are hitting the ball extremely well as eight of the nine players in the starting line-up are hitting .280 or better. Trino Aguilar (.385), Ed Montague (.359), Tim Dorn (.357) and Carlos Mendoza (.339) rank in the top ten in hitting in the American Association.
This season Ed Montague and Larry Bethea are both hitting an astounding .476 against against Fort Worth with a combined seven RBI, three homeruns, and four stolen bases. Starter Clint Sodowsky and closer Tony Pierce have each tallied double digits in strikeouts against the Cats and as a team the Pelicans have only surrendered 13 earned runs to Fort Worth.
Fort Worth enters the series having hit a slump, losing three in a row and eight of their last ten. Their winning drought began last week when they were swept by Pensacola at Pelican Park. The Cats may be going through tough times as of late but they are a team with a lot of experience and they are proven contenders.
Marc Mirizzi has performed extremely well against the Pelicans this season, he is batting .450 with three doubles and four RBI. Cory Walters has pitched well against Pensacola, allowing only four runs in two quality outings, striking out 13 and picking up the lone win for the Cats against the Pels this season.
WHO TO WATCH:
Pensacola: Carlos Mendoza-SS- He is first on the team in runs (22), doubles (13), walks (20) and stolen bases (13). He is second in hits (41) and third in batting (.339). Clint Sodowsky-SP- Is coming off the longest outing for a Pelican pitcher this season, going 8.2 innings against Coastal Bend on Tuesday. He got the win against league leading Coastal Bend and struck out 9 allowing only 1 run.
Fort Worth: Jordan Foster -1B- Leads the Cats with four homeruns and 24 RBI. He is hitting .299 on the season with two triples and nine doubles and has scored 20 runs. Cory Walters-SP- Is the leader of the Fort Worth pitching staff with three wins and 32 strikeouts. Walters is coming off a win against El Paso in which he allowed three earned runs and struck out eight.
