Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans took the field Tuesday afternoon with 1163 fans cheering them on and they showed their appreciation by scoring not early but often. After losing their first eight outings the Pelicans have since strung together four consecutive wins and are sitting in fourth place in the American Association Southern Division.
Pelican starting pitcher Sam Smith threw six strong innings giving up three hits and allowing only one run. Smith stuck out five El Paso batters in his best outing of the early 2006 season.
David McWatters was pitching a solid game for the Diablos until the bottom of the fifth when the Pelicans touched him up for three runs in a three hit inning. Bo Brown hit a double scoring Tim Dorn who doubled in front of him and a passed ball allowed another run to score.
The Pelicans struck again in sixth with their big inning of the game; thanks to five hits and the aid of two Diablo errors they scored four runs. Pensacola went on to score one run in the seventh and another three in the eighth as they downed the Diablos 11-3.
Bo Brown was named the player of the game going 2-4 with 3 runs scored, two RBI and two doubles.
Tomorrow Rusty Begnaud will take the mound for Pensacola and Jason Wiedmeyer will throw for the Diablos.
