Canaries Sign New Catcher

Sioux Falls, SD - The Canaries have signed catcher Dennis Anderson. Anderson joins the team for Tuesday night's game against the St. Paul Saints.

Anderson was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 25th round of the 1999 entry draft. In the Marlins system for the last seven seasons, he has spent the last three years with the organizations Double-A affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats. In 2005, Anderson hit .333 in 67 games with a home run and 26 RBI.

The new Canaries catcher brings championship experience to Sioux Falls. Anderson won league titles with the Kane County Cougars in 2001 and the Mudcats in 2003.

Anderson replaces Canaries catcher Alexis Hernandez. Hernandez was traded on Monday to the Nashua Pride of the Can-Am League for a player to be named later.

Bird Seeds: The Canaries host the Saints for a three-game series on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Birdcage. ... Tuesday night is Big Love Night at the stadium. Wednesday night is A Night of Magic presented by Allegiant Air. Thursday night is Napoleon Dynamite Night presented by The Holiday Inn City Centre.
