Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

LHP Dimasther Delgado (9-6, 3.72) at RHP Wilfredo Boscan (4-11, 4.31)

'TIL WE MEET AGAIN': Sunday was the final time the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Kinston Indians faced off in regular season. It could have been the last game ever between the two clubs, as Kinston will move to Zebulon, NC for the 2012 season. However, with Kinston holding a half-game lead over the Winston-Salem Dash in the Southern Division second-half standings, the Pelicans and the K-Tribe could meet in the postseason after splitting the season series 10-10. Myrtle Beach edged the Indians by two games in the first half to clinch a playoff berth and they will play whoever wins the second half. If the Birds come back to win the second-half title as well, they'll play whoever finishes second to them and secures a wild card spot. It looks like the Pelicans will host either the Indians or the Winston-Salem Dash in the playoff opener on Wednesday, September 7.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Outfielder Jared Hoying had a big night in the Birds' loss on Sunday. Batting out of the leadoff spot, Hoying reached in all five plate appearances, scoring three runs as he singled, walked and doubled three times. The trio of two-baggers equaled a Pelicans season-high. Zach Zaneski pulled the trick in his five-hit, seven-RBI day in Potomac on May 3 and Ryan Strausborger notched three doubles on April 30 against Frederick and July 16 against Salem. The 2010 Northwest League MVP for Short Season-A Spokane, Hoying matched a career-high Sunday with his second four-hit game. The first one was another home game against Kinston when he tallied four singles, three in the infield, including the walk-off winner in the tenth inning on June 29.

A DOZEN OF DIMES: Travis Adair singled in a run in the third inning on Sunday to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. The Woodruff, SC native is batting an even .300 (15-50) with 13 runs scored during the streak, the third-longest by a Pelican this season and it's tied for the tenth-longest in the league. Next up for Travis are the Atlanta Braves-affiliated Lynchburg Hillcats, a club that Adair has battered this year. The former Braves prospect was released by Atlanta after the 2009 season and after signing with the Rangers last year, he's gotten some revenge in going 15-for-27 (.556) in eight games. Over the course of two stints with Myrtle Beach this year, Adair has hit .313 while batting in every spot in the lineup except leadoff.

I'M BACK!: The Pelicans have battled injuries to key players in the second half, but third baseman Mike Olt came back from his 66-game DL stint on Saturday the only way he knew how. After drawing a four-pitch walk in his first trip to the plate in the first inning, he crushed a mammoth home run to left field in the third inning off Kinston starter Mike Rayl. Olt added an RBI double in the fifth inning as well as his three runs batted in to lead the charge in a Pelicans victory. On Sunday he went 1-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and a run scored. Olt left the Pelicans with a .286 average, ten home runs, 34 runs batted in, and a .903 OPS. His homer total still leads all Pelicans hitters, as does his OPS. Olt has been gone for so long, he has actually played less than half the season, missing 66 of the Birds' 124 games. The Pelicans started the season 33-23, lost the night Olt went down and went 33-33 in his absence.

STILL A CHANCE: The Pelicans are 41-21 at BB&T Coastal Field this season and if they go 5-1 in their final home games (Tuesday-Thursday vs. Lynchburg and September 3-5 vs. Salem), they can beat the 46-23 mark of the 2008 club. That team went 89-51 overall to secure the best full-season record in minor league baseball, but they fell in the Carolina League Championship Series 3-1 to Potomac. The 2011 Birds seemed like a lock to pass that home mark, but they have only gone 9-9 over their last 18 home games.

RECORD BREAKER': A 65-year Carolina League record could fall this week at BB&T Coastal Field. Lynchburg slugger Joey Terdoslavich has 49 doubles this season and is two shy of tying the all-time single-season mark of 51, set in 1946 by Durham's Woody Fair. With one more two-bagger the switch-hitter can become the fourth Carolina Leaguer to knock 50 in a season. In addition to Fair's 51, Lawrence "Crash" Davis hit 50 for the Durham Bulls in 1948 and Carlos Lee hit 50 for Winston-Salem in 1997.
