August 23, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston closer Preston Guilmet is the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week. Guilmet collected three saves in the week long span to become the league's saves leader with 33. Guilmet made four appearances in the week, striking out four batters and allowing two hits in five innings of scoreless baseball
Guilmet is 1-1 with a 1.66 ERA and 33 saves in 48 appearances this season. The University of Arizona product has been dominant all season, allowing earned runs to score in just six of his 48 appearances. Kinston's opposition has been unable to score on Guilmet in 17 of his last 18 outings, contributing to a 0.00 era in the month of August. Kinston's All-Star closer is currently working with an 11 inning scoreless streak and totals the second most saves in all of minor league baseball.
Guilmet is the fourth K-Triber, joining Marty Popham (7/11-7/17), T.J. House (6/13-6/19) and Drew Pomeranz (4/8-4/17), to take a CL Pitcher of the Week Award. Outfielder Abner Abreu was Carolina League Player of the Week on July 11th and 25th.
The Kinston Indians will play in the final homestand of the 2011 regular season August 26th through September second. Giveaways, fireworks and special promotions are just part of the fun. G.A. for the general public is just $5, reserved seats are $6. For a schedule or to purchase and print your tickets on-line go to www.kinstonindians.com or call the front office at 1-800-334-5467.
