Frederick Keys News Release

The Kinston Indians controlled the Keys on Tuesday evening as the K-Tribe defeated Frederick, 3-1. Marty Popham and Kyle Landis combined to strikeout the Keys 13 times on the night. In the losing effort, CF Steve Bumbry hit his 10th home run of the season in the sixth inning.

Through his first three starts as a Key, RHP Scott Copeland was 3-0 with an ERA of 0.52. His fourth start, however, was doomed by one rough inning. In the bottom of the second inning, the Kinston Indians plated all three of their runs. SS Casey Frawley led off the frame with a single to center field. Following an Anthony Gallas walk and Justin Toole sac bunt, C Roberto Perez stepped to the plate with two men in scoring position. Perez hit a hard grounder down the third base line for a two-run double. Later in the inning, Perez came around to score on an error by 3B Michael Rooney.

The three-run lead was plenty for Marty Popham. Popham hurled seven innings against the Keys and surrendered just one run on two hits while striking out eight. Popham's lone blemish came off the bat of Steve Bumbry in the sixth inning. Bumbry blasted a solo shot to right field for the Keys' only run of the night.

Kyle Landis closed out the contest for the K-Tribe with two scoreless innings of relief.

Popham picked up the win for Kinston and improved to 6-2 on the season. In addition, he improved to 3-0 in three starts against the Keys in 2011. Scott Copeland picked up the loss and fell to 3-1 in four starts in Frederick.

In the defeat, RHP Ryan O'Shea was sharp out the bullpen. O'Shea tossed three scoreless innings without allowing a hit.

The Keys and K-Tribe will return to the field on Wednesday night for game three of the four-game set. RHP Ryohei Tanaka (8-5, 3.43) will take the hill for Frederick while Kinston will turn to LHP T.J. House (6-11, 5.31). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

A day after being shaken by an earthquake that reached 5.9 on the scales, the Keys are shaking their prices for Wednesday night's game. All fans that come to the box office can buy a general admission ticket for just $5.90. This price represents the quakes effect on the Keys ticket prices. These discounted tickets will go on sale at 11am Wednesday morning.
