Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

- RHP Kennil Gomez (2-2, 3.65) at RHP Paul Demny (7-10, 4.94) -

STRASBURG REPORT: With the baseball world keeping tabs on his process, Stephen Strasburg looked as good as could be expected for his second rehab start in the minors on the path back from Tommy John Surgery. Strasburg threw 12 pitches in the first inning, 13 in the second, and needed just eight to dismiss the Pelicans in a dominant third in which he struck out two. Travis Adair and Ryan Strausborger reached on infield singles against the right-hander in the first and second innings respectively, and Santiago Chirino reached on a second-inning error. Other than that, the Pelicans got nothing. Myrtle Beach didn't hit a single ball out of the infield against the first overall pick of the 2009 draft, and Strasburg struck out five, touching 99 on the Pfitzner Stadium ribbon board radar readings. Strasburg was slated to throw 50 pitches and, after just 33, finished his day working in the right-field bullpen.

THREE KINGS: Heading into tonight's game in Woodbridge, the Pelicans have three players that rank in the Carolina League's top ten in batting average. Jared Prince's two-hit night Friday moved him up to sixth in the circuit at .279 while Jared Bolden's .274 average and Ryan Strausborger's .272 clip put them eighth and ninth in the league respectively.
