August 13th, 2011 -- 6:05 PM

Frawley Stadium

LHP Chris Masters (7-5, 3.35) vs RHP Justin Marks (7-8, 4.44)

THE HILLCATS: Friday, the 'Cats lost to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 9-3...Lycnhburg jumped out early with a run in the first when Joey Terdoslavich tripled home Andrelton Simmons...The Blue Rocks came right back with four runs in the bottom of the opening frame on a double, triple, a hit batter, and a home run...LHP Matt Crim lasted four innings in his first start June 15th and took the loss...Wilmington kept a consistent attack going late, scoring at least once in the fourth through the seventh...The 'Cats plated two more runs on an error and a wild pitch but never recovered from the early deficit...The Hillcats are currently in third place in the Northern Division at 20-27, 9.0 games back of the Frederick Keys in first place...

VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats are 10-8 against the Blue Rocks this season...This is Lynchburg's final series against Wilmington this season...The 'Cats finished are 5-5 against the Blue Rocks at home, and are currently 5-3 while visiting Frawley Stadium...Last season, Lynchburg lost the season series to Wilmington 8-12...Myrtle Beach (2010 Braves Advance-A affiliate) however, won 11 of their 20 match-ups with the Blue Rocks a season ago...

SIGNS OF LIFE: Lynchburg has won seven of their last 10...They've won their last four series in a row, against the Salem Red Sox, Frederick Keys, Wilmington Blue Rocks, and the Kinston Indians, all 2-1...It's the first time the 'Cats have accomplished such a feat all season...Not since May 23-29 had they even won back-to-back series...With just 23 games left, the Hillcats are five games out of a playoff spot behind the Potomac Nationals, since the first place Keys have already secured their spot by winning the first half...

LOST FROM THE START: Last night's loss credited to LHP Matt Crim was the first loss taken by a Hillcats starter since LHP Blaine Sims lost July 27 to Myrtle Beach...Oddly enough it was Sims who Crim was making a spot start for as Sims just hit the disabled list...

HONORING A LEGEND: Former Atlanta Braves Manager Bobby Cox was inducted in the Braves Hall of Fame yesterday in Atlanta prior to the Braves series opener against the Chicago Cubs...Cox who visited Lynchburg on July 10th this season is currently involved as a special assistant to the General Manager with the Braves...He won 2,504 games as a manager, fourth most all-time...

BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Atlanta Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes C Christian Bethancourt (12), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...

GETTING ON: OF L.V. Ware went 2-for-4 last night with a double...He's now reached base in 12 consecutive contests...In that span he is hitting ..333 (13-for-39) with three doubles, a triple, and two home runs...He's also been walked four times and hit twice...The last time he didn't reach base was in the second game of a double header July 27 where he only came up twice...Snapped a four-game hit-streak that day...

WILEY WATCH: OF Keenan Wiley was called up from Low-A Rome on April 25th...He played in his 84th game with the Hillcats last night, going 0-for-4 with a stolen base, but is still hitting .288 on the year...That mark would be good for third in the Carolina League but Wiley is still just two plate appearances short of qualifying...He'll need five plate appearances tonight or 10 over the next three games and he'll have enough...

CATNIPS: INF Joey Terdoslavich hit his 46th double of the season Tuesday night, setting a new Lynchburg record...He is just five behind the all-time Carolina League record...The Hillcats stole a season-high six bases Thursday night against the Blue Rocks, with six different players...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Justin Marks was a third round pick by the Athletics in the 2009 draft out of Louisville University...He was traded to the Royals with RHP Vin Mazarro for David DeJesus on November 10, 2010...Spent most of 2010 with Low-A Kane County and received an August callup to High-A Stockton..Went a combined 6-13 with a 4.87 ERA in 2010...Faced Lynchburg three times this season...Took loss on April 27, pitching six innings and giving up five runs on eight hits...Earned no decision on May 3, when he gave up six earned runs in three innings...Took loss June 13 after giving up five runs on nine hits in six innings...Currently 7-8 with a 4.44 ERA...
