The Pelicans took the lead early in the first when Kevin Alcantara scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Moises Ballesteros. Charleston answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Shane Saski, his seventh of the year.
The 1-1 score would hold until the top of the third. Pedro Ramirez, who singled with one out, scored on a hit by Ballesteros. The second RBI of the night for Ballesteros also advanced Josue Huma to third. Huma later scored on a RBI single to center by Ezequiel Pagan to put the Birds' up 3-1.
