Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

It was one sixth-inning mistake that sent Myrtle Beach to a 3-2 defeat and clinched a sweep of the weekend series for the Red Sox.

Cole Miles tripled to lead off the bottom of the first and came home to score the afternoon's first run on a safety squeeze bunt from Amadeo Zazueta to give Myrtle Beach a 1-0 lead.

Salem tied things in the second when Tim Federowicz doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a two-out Ryan Dent single.

After the Pelicans took a lead in the third when Zazueta singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Gerardo Avila groundout, the Red Sox again evened the score with a fourth-inning tally on another Dent RBI single.

In the sixth, Pelicans starter Matt Crim (2-2) retired the first two batters before issuing a two-out walk to Dent.

Rocket Wheeler lifted his starter to bring in reliever David Francis, but Francis's command wasn't there early. The right-handed Canadian walked Jon Hee and Peter Hissey, and with two outs, a passed ball got by Pelicans catcher Matt Kennelly to plate Hee with the eventual game-winning run.
