Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today that Pittsburgh Pirates Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Littlefield will be on the Pelicans Coaches Show on Saturday, August 5 from noon to 1pm at New York Nick's in downtown Pensacola.

Littlefield was named Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Pirates in July 2001, becoming the 11th G.M. in the history of the club. In his first full season, the Pirates showed a 10-game improvement from the 2001 campaign. Through his scouting and hiring efforts, Pittsburgh's minor league clubs combined to win 399 games and produced the second-best farm system among all major league teams. For his leadership and results from his staff and team, the Pirates were named the 2002 Organization-of-the-Year by Topps, a nationally recognized baseball card company.

Before joining the Pirates, Littlefield served the Florida Marlins as Vice President and Assistant to General Manager Dave Dombrowski. Littlefield then spent parts of three seasons as the Director of Player Development for the Montreal Expos where he originally joined the Expos scouting department in November 1991. He also spent three years in the Detroit Tigers organization as an area scout and East Coast Scouting Supervisor. Littlefield served as an Assistant Baseball Coach for three seasons at the University of Massachusetts, followed by three more seasons at Clemson University.

Hosts Jay Burnham and Eric Lewitke will also be joined by Pelicans Manager Kash Beauchamp to discuss his team and their current three-game home stand versus the Shreveport Sports.

As of August 3, the Pelicans have a team earned run average (ERA) of 4.38, ranked sixth in the American Association and a team batting average of .287 putting the Pelicans third in the league. The Pelicans have two players ranked in the Top 10 in league batting: Ed Montague and former Pelicans shortstop Carlos Mendoza, who signed August 1 with the New York Yankees and is playing with the Tampa Yankees in the Florida State League.
