St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

ST. JOSEPH, MO-It was a dramatic return home for St. Joe (13-13, 38-35), blowing a late lead before winning it in the ninth, 3-2, over the Sioux Falls Canaries (11-14, 27-47). After the Canaries tied the game in the top of the ninth, Denver Kitch doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the inning for the win. The Blacksnakes continued to own the first inning with another run. Scooter Jordan walked, stole second base, was bunted to third and scored on Cory Harris' sacrifice fly. They have out-scored the opposition, 61-38 in the first inning this season.

Sioux Falls tied it with an unearned run in the fourth against Andrew Edwards, but Edwards held the Canaries down before his offense could strike again. They did in the sixth, breaking the 1-1 tie with a clutch, two-out double by Cory Harris for the 2-1 lead.

However, Abner Arroyo and Bubba Smith collected consecutive doubles to tie it in the ninth for the Canaries off closer Jamie Tricoglou to set up Kitch's heroics.

Kitch picked Tricoglou up, coming up clutch in the ninth. With Wil Quintana at first base and two outs, Kitch hit a two-strike, two-out curveball down the right field line to score Quintana easily on the game-winning double for the 3-2 win.

Edwards worked six outstanding innings, allowing just three hits and an unearned run while striking out a season-high four batters. Canaries' starter Aaron Garrison was excellent, too, allowing just three hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings.

The four-game set continues Friday night at 7:05pm from Phil Welch Stadium. Jesen Merle (4-3) starts opposite Tony Cogan (6-3) for the Canaries. It is the usual "Friday Night Fireworks" promotion, with fireworks following the game. The broadcast starts at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com or at the ballpark, at 88.9 FM with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show.
