Pensacola Pelicans News Release
Every Pelicans player had at least one hit to score 11 runs on 18 hits and win 11-6 tonight over the visiting Sioux City Explorers. Pelican's slugger George Branch had his game-of-the going a perfect 5-5 at the plate with a homerun, double, three RBI and two run scored. Trino Aguilar, Ed Montague, Rolo Avila and Andrew Salvo each had a multi-hits game.
The Pelicans didn't mind the rain delay as they jumped out early scoring five runs on five hits in the bottom of the 1st inning. Trino Aguilar and Ed Montague started off the game with back-to-back hits and Tim Dorn walked to load the bases. Pensacola used another set of back-to-back hits from George Branch and Rolo Avila to begin the scoring. Pelicans catcher Jon Pasieka hit what looked to be an inning-ending groundball to X's second baseman. On the third bounce, the ball quickly hopped up unexpectedly hitting Robert Mendoza in the face, being scored as a hit and scoring two runs.
Sioux City was able to answer with one run in the 2nd inning and three more in the 3rd inning making the score 5-4. Chris Grossman doubled in the 2nd and scored the Explorers first run. The first three batters in the 3rd frame all reached base and all came around to score. Zack Pace was hit by a pitch, Alex Llanos walked and Jorge Moreno singled to load the bases. Jake Daubert then singled in Pace and Llanos scored off a Chris Grossman ground ball.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Pensacola plated two more runs. George Branch led off the inning with a deep shot to left-field, his 11th long ball of the season. Avila then doubled and scored.
Pelicans starting pitcher Michael Hyle worked his way through the game turning in a good performance to record his fifth win of the season. The right-hander allowed four runs on eight scattered hits and struck out three in six innings of work. Bubba Dobson, Andrew Lane and Trey Stephens each pitched one inning a piece to finish out the game for the Pelicans.
Neither team was done scoring but the Pelicans lead was too much for the Explorers to overcome. Pensacola scored one in the 4th and three in the 6th. Sioux City plated two in the 8th inning to make the final score 11-6. The two teams combined for 30 hits.
