St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - It was a night of streak-stopping for the St. Paul Saints. Wil Quintana hit a league-leading 20th home run of the season and J.C. Huguet (7-3) went a strong 7.1 innings as St. Joe held off the Saints, 5-3, before 6,019 at Midway Stadium.
St. Paul's five game winning streak came to an end as did Adam Olow's season high 14-game hitting streak. St. Paul, 51-41 overall, saw its magic number for clinching a Wild Card berth in the North Division playoffs remain at 3. The Blacksnakes kept their playoff hopes alive as they improved to 48-43 overall.
Justin Lord (11-3) was victimized by a four-run fifth inning in taking the loss. Ex-Saint Cory Harris' two-RBI single was the big blow as the Blacksnakes broke a scoreless tie by sending 10 batters to the plate in the fateful fifth frame.
St. Paul rallied in the seventh on Billy Cox's two-RBI single. But Quintana made it 5-2 when he led off the eighth inning with a solo shot off reliever Matt Pike. In the bottom of the inning, Derrick White doubled and Nick Gretz singled him home but Jamie Tricoglou retired the next five batters to earn his 19th save.
The team wrap up the three-game series Tuesday at Midway (7:05 p.m.). Lefty Anthony Boughner (8-7) will face Blacksnakes ace righty Mark Nussbeck (8-3). St. Paul is off Wednesday before the regular season with a three-game series at Midway against Sioux Falls. St. Joe returns home to host Fort Worth in a four-game series starting Wednesday night.
