Blacksnakes' Closer Awarded Pitcher of the Week

August 21, 2006 - American Association (AA)
St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

ST. JOSEPH, MO-The Blacksnakes back-end of the bullpen was solidified in late May when Jamie Tricoglou took over as the closer. Today the right-hander was selected by Sportsticker, the American Association's official statistician as the Pitcher of the Week for the past week, ending August 20.

The Chattanooga, TN native appeared in four games and allowed just one hit in four innings with three saves. Last Monday, Tricoglou appeared in both ends of a doubleheader and picked up saves in each appearance as St. Joe swept the St. Paul Saints. He struck out five and walked just one during the week.

The 26-year old began the season in the starting rotation, but is third in the league with 18 saves after being moved to the closer role at the end of May. In 38 relief appearances, Tricoglou is 4-1 with a stellar 1.40 ERA. In 45.0 relief innings, opponents have just 30 hits for a .184 average with 53 strikeouts against Tricoglou who is a candidate for the League's Relief Pitcher of the Year.

Earlier this season, RHP Mark Nussbeck was awarded both Pitcher of the Week and Pitcher of the Month honors while 1B Mark Burke earned the Batter of the Week award.

Coastal Bend's Pat O'Sullivan was awarded the Batter of the Week award.

St. Joe has a long road to make the playoffs and that continues tonight in St. Paul. J.C. Huguet (6-3) takes the hill in the middle game of the series against the Saints' Justin Lord (11-2). Game time is 7:05pm and the webcast can be heard at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com, starting at 6:45pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show.
