Pensacola Pelicans News Release
At the end of the Pelicans 2009 season, one local charity will be the recipient of a $10,000 donation check from Pelicans owners Quint and Rishy Studer. Voting for the Pelicans fan favorite charity is underway.
The Pelicans have received many votes from fans for their favorite charity. After 23 home games, the American Cancer Society is leading the pack; with the Ronald McDonald House and Miracle League Baseball not far behind.
At each home game, fans will receive a voting ballot as they walk through the gates located at the bottom of the Fan Survey Card. Fans will have the option to vote for the following charities: Alfred Washburn Homeless Center, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, ARC Gateway, Autism Society of the Panhandle, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Council on Aging of West Florida, Favor House, Greyhound Pets of America, Humane Society of Pensacola, Independence for the Blind, Junior Achievement, Junior Humane Society, Learn to Read, Leaning Post Ranch, Miracle League Baseball, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Northwest Florida Blood Centers, Pace Center for Girls, Pensacola Civitan Club, Pillars of Promise, Pyramid Performing and Visual Arts, Ronald McDonald House, Santa Rosa Education, Take Stock in Children, The Zoo-NWFL, United Cerebral Palsy, and United Way.
American Cancer Society volunteer, Mellani Gilbert, notes the importance of this offer to one local charity, "Quint and Rishy's donation will give the gift of Hope to many so I commend them for their generous contributions despite the economy."
In addition to the charity donation, one lucky fan who completely fills out the Fan Survey Card and voting ballot will win $1,000. All completed survey cards will be entered into a drawing. Both the drawing for fans and the announcement of the fan favorite charity will be done at the Pelicans last home game on Sunday, August 30 at Jim Spooner Field at Pelican Park.
The Pelicans have a 6 home stand this week beginning on Tuesday versus the El Paso Diablos. Tuesday-Friday game times are at 6:35 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
