'Nuts Hang on for First Second Half Win

Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts picked up their first win of the second half, hanging on for an 8-7 decision over the St. Paul Saints on Tuesday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

St. Paul got on the board in the first with two runs on RBI singles by Alex Fonseca and Brent Krause. Wichita got one back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout by Greg Porter. The Wingnuts exploded in the third for four runs, sending 10 men to the plate. Dustan Mohr walked with the bases loaded, followed by a two-run single by Kelly Hunt. Stephen Pearson knocked in the final run of the inning on an RBI groundout.

In the sixth, St. Paul got a lead-off home run from Jacon Butler and an RBI double by Scott Knazek to cut the lead to 6-4. The Wingnuts tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by Nick Blasi. St. Paul added runs in the seventh, Wichita countered with one in the bottom of the inning and St. Paul cut the lead to 8-7 with a run in the eighth. In the ninth, however; new closer Joe D'Allesandro got a leadoff groundout and struck out the last two Saints on six pitches to pick up his first save and give starter Gabe Medina his league-leading seventh win of the season. Josh Horn led the Wingnuts with three hits and three runs.
