All-Star shortstop Jaime Pedroza has been signed by the Atlanta Braves' organization, it was announced today by the Lancaster Barnstormers.

He will report to Class AA Mississippi.

Pedroza, 25, ranked among Atlantic League leaders in several offensive categories. He was eighth in the league in batting (.310), second in home runs (14), tied for fourth in RBI (50), fifth in on base percentage (.398) and second in slugging percentage (.565).

Originally signed as a utility infielder after being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pedroza quickly assumed the role of everyday shortstop. The switch hitter hit a tiebreaking homer at Southern Maryland in the top of the ninth in the third game of the season and hit a walkoff homer against Somerset on Memorial Day that put the Barnstormers into first place, a position they never lost.

The native of Riverside, CA also performed a rare feat, homering from both sides of the plate at Somerset's TD Bank Park on June 6.

He leaves the Barnstormers on a 16-game hitting streak, four shy of the club record. He has hit .417 in the streak with 18 RBI.

"He deserves it," said manager Butch Hobson. "(Jaime) has had a heck of a year. He works hard and never asks for a day off."

Pedroza is the third Barnstormer to be signed by a Major League organization within the last week and the sixth this season. He joins Terry Tiffee, who was acquired one week ago, in the Braves chain.

Lancaster has signed infielder Kyle Haines, 29, who was released yesterday by the York Revolution. Haines had five hits in 23 at bats for York since joining the Revs prior to the All-Star break. The former Giants farmhand has also played in the Atlantic League for Camden in 2009 and 2010.

He is reunited with double play partner Brad Boyer, with whom he spent two years in the Giants system as well as last year in Gary, IN.
