Patriots Double up Ducks 4-2

Central Islip, NY - The Somerset Patriots (3-4, 38-39) defeated the Long Island Ducks (3-4, 42-34) 4-2 Thursday night from Bethpage Ballpark to earn a series split in this four game midweek series.

The Ducks took an early 1-0 lead in the home half of the second as catcher Mitch Canham laced a RBI double to left field.

The Patriots responded with four consecutive two out hits in the third inning to catapult in front 3-1. After right fielder Joe Holden doubled, center fielder Jonny Tucker and second baseman Freddie Bynum followed with RBI singles then designated hitter Jake Fox extended his hitting streak to seven games with a RBI double to right center field.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Ducks second baseman Ray Navarrete slapped a RBI single to center field to cut the two run deficit in half making the score 3-2.

The Patriots added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning as Navarette made an error that led to a run giving the Patriots a 4-2 advantage which would be the final.

Sean Green was fantastic, earning his second win of the season, allowing just one run in eight innings. Bob Zimmerman suffered his fourth loss of the year as he tossed a complete game and only allowed three earned runs. Andrew Dobies notched his first save of the 2012 campaign.
