York Revolution News Release
Derrick Gordon was impressive in his debut for the York Revolution, who earned a rain-shortened 3-1 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish to close out the opening homestand of the season's second half on Thursday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The game was called due to rain and storms in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Revs (2-5) will look to take their newfound momentum onto the road for a six-game trip beginning on Friday in Camden.
Gordon (2-4) earned the win in his first start after signing with the Revs on Tuesday. He allowed just one run on five hits in five innings, walked none, and struck out one in his first appearance since July 8 with Sugar Land, and in his first starting assignment since June 19.
The only run that Gordon allowed came on a first inning leadoff home run by Edgardo Baez. From that point forward, Gordon allowed no further runs, and received help from center fielder Scott Grimes who threw out Luis Figueroa attempting to score on a Baez single with two outs in the fifth to finish Gordon's outing.
Adam Thomas protected the lead with a scoreless sixth to earn his fourth save of the season.
The Revs scored all of the runs needed in the bottom of the second, rallying for three runs against Bridgeport lefty Dan Serafini (3-1). With runners at the corners and no outs, Chris Nowak hit into a fielder's choice, on which Andres Perez scored when second baseman Figueroa's throw was errant when attempting to turn two. Nowak took second on the miscue, stole third, and scored on an RBI single to right by James Shanks. Danny Gonzalez later added a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring for the game.
The game was called with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning.
