April 5, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Mark Pederson, who was named to the All-West Coast Hockey League team, has also been announced as the 2002-03 Outstanding Forward of the Year.

Pederson, in his first season with the Gulls, has tallied 72 points - fifth in the WCHL - in 60 games played. He ranks second in the league with 39 goals and 16 power-play goals. The 6-foot-2-inch, 196-pound veteran forward from Prelate, Saskatchewan also leads the WCHL with four hat tricks, eight game-winning goals and is tied with a .227 shooting percentage. Pederson was also a two-time Player of the Week this season.

"Mark is obviously a great impact player, but he does so many other things," Gulls head coach and general manager Steve Martinson said. "It's not just the goals, points and on-ice accolades. He is a leader on and off the ice and has been great with the younger players on this team. This award is a testament to the kind of player and person Mark really is."

Before coming to San Diego, Pederson spent the last seven seasons playing in Europe. Counting this year, he has led his team in points and goals five different seasons. The 35-year-old was a first round selection (15th pick overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. Pederson played parts of five seasons in the NHL with Montreal, Philadelphia, San Jose and Detroit.

Pederson was selected as the Outstanding Forward, as voted by WCHL coaches and media in each of the league's member cities.
