Brent Pedersen scored and added an assist in the Kitchener Rangers 4-3 overtime loss to the Plymouth Whalers on Saturday night. Max Iafrate picked up an assist for the Rangers, extending his point streak to a tenth game, while the Rangers picked up a point in an eleventh consecutive contest.

The Whalers opened the scoring in the latter half of the first period, when Sonny Milano set up Matt Mistele in the slot. The veteran winger took advantage of space in front of the Rangers net, pushing a shot past starter Dawson Carty for his 13th of the year. Francesco Vilardi also picked up an assist on the play.

Plymouth added a second goal with less than four minutes to play in the frame, taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Mathew Campagna found Mistele open at the right face-off dot, and the fourth-year forward wired a high shot past Carty for his second of the game. Milano earned his second assist of the night on the power play goal at 16:12.

The Rangers led shots on goal 11-10 in the first period.

Sophomore Nick Magyar put Kitchener on the board near the midway point with his second goal in as many games. With the teams skating 4-on-4, he fired a shot on goal was turned aside by netminder Alex Nedeljkovic, but the Ohio native collected his own rebound in the blue paint and buried it for his sixth goal of the year. Brent Pedersen and Dmitrii Sergeev each earned a helper on the play, given both points in back-to-back contests.

Pedersen added a goal of his own in the final minute of the period, capitalizing on the power play to record his second of the weekend and fifth of the year. The long-time Rangers' winger was assisted by Frank Hora and Max Iafrate, who extended his point streak to a tenth consecutive game.

The Whalers out-shot the Rangers 14-10 in the second period.

Bryce Yetman broke the 2-2 deadlock with six minutes left to play, chipping a shot over Carty to notch his fourth goal of the year. The power play marker was assisted by Connor Chatham and Mistele, his third point of the game.

Import centre Gustaf Franzen tied the game at three goals apiece with less than four minutes to play, gaining the puck off the faceoff in Plymouth territory, carrying it to the net and backhanding a shot past Nedeljkovic for his fourth of the year. The unassisted tally was his second of the year against the Whalers, and sent the contest into overtime.

The Rangers out-shot Plymouth 8-5 in the third, but each team finished regulation with 29 shots on goal.

Second year Whaler Connor Chatham recorded the overtime winner 3:41 seconds into the extra frame, shifting the puck around the defenceman and lifting a shot into the top left corner of the net. The solo effort was the Illinois native's sixth goal of the year.

The Whalers out-shot the Rangers 5-3 in the overtime period. With the loss, the Rangers record sits at 9-3-1-3. The team has not loss in regulation since October 11.
