Attack Blank Spits in Owen Sound
November 8, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
Chris Bigras scored the game-winner and Michael McNiven made 33 saves, as the Attack blanked the Spitfires, 3-0, before a crowd of 3,204 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound Saturday night.
Scoreless through more than half of regulation time, Bigras gave Owen Sound (9-4-1- 4) all it would need to win, beating Brendan Johnston (27 saves) with a backhander at 12:34 of the second period.
Damir Sharipzyanov (16:21) and Zach Nastasiuk (17:08) sealed the victory with late goals, in support of McNiven's first Ontario Hockey League shutout.
Kyle Platzer (2A) set up both insurance goals.
Windsor (6-10-1-0) had plenty of chances on the night, including six power play opportunities, but couldn't solve McNiven, a 17-year-old rookie from Georgetown, Ontario.
For the second consecutive start in Owen Sound, Johnston deserved a better fate. He made 27 saves on the night, including a key penalty shot on Nastasiuk in the first period.
The loss kept the Spitfires winless in six road games on the season; a streak they look to end as they return to action Friday night in Saginaw (7:11).
