
Pearce Stellar in Net; Walleye Win Third Straight, 2-1 Over Elmira Jackals

Toledo, Ohio - On Sunday, the Toledo Walleye beat the Elmira Jackals, 2-1 (in a shoot-out), for their third straight win. RW Bryan Ewing's second period power-play goal had the Walleye on top until late in the game. Toledo goaltender Jordan Pearce was named First Star of the game with 34 saves, and was not scored on in the shootout.
After a scoreless first period, the Walleye converted on their fifth power play chance of the game. A shot from the point was turned aside but Ewing jammed at the rebound and poked it in past Elmira goalie Tyler Sims for the lead. The goal was Ewing's first of the season; he now has a four-game point streak (1g-6a).
The Walleye led until the 17:03 mark of the third period, when Josh Aspenlind scored his first of the season for Elmira to tie the game at 1-1.

The Walleye had previously been 0-3 in shootouts this season. Prior to tonight, they had scored on just 21.4 percent of attempts and allowed 50 percent against. Tanguay improved to 2-for-4 this season on shootouts, Nesbitt notched his first shoot-out goal in two attempts.

--The Walleye have now won three straight games for the first time this season. They have improved their record to 12-10-1-3 and are just four points off the North Division lead, held by the Kalamazoo Wings.
What's Up Next: The Walleye look to continue their winning ways on the road at Cincinnati on Tuesday and at Johnstown on Friday. They host the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday, December 19 7 p.m.
