Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - D Eric Regan lit the lamp in overtime to propel the Bakersfield Condors (16-6-2-0, 34 points) to a 3-2 victory over the Utah Grizzlies (14-7-2-0, 30 points) Saturday night in front of 5,741 fans at Rabobank Arena. The Condors home winning streak now stands at 10 games. LW Shawn Weller was named First Star of the Game, contributing two goals and an assist. The Condors's tribute to Veterans included wearing commemorative Pearl Harbor jerseys, featuring the USS Arizona and Iwo Jima Memorials.
In the second meeting between the two clubs in as many nights, the Condors and Grizzlies exchanged first period tallies. Weller snapped home his eighth of the season, on the power play at 4:18. Utah tied it up with just over a minute remaining in the period, as F Tom May scored on a penalty shot, beating G Timo Pielmeier.
Neither team could break the tie in the middle stanza. Though Bakersfield had a considerable advantage in shots on goal, owning an 11-5 bulge on the scoreboard.
Utah took the lead early in the third period, with LW A.J. Perry knocking in a rebound just 1:07 in. Bakersfield responded, however, with Weller getting his second of the night past G Parker van Buskirk. His shot was redirected by a Grizzly and found the back of the net for the Condors' sixth shorthanded goal of the season and his 9th, at 7:05. The score remained tied through regulation and headed to overtime tied up a 2-2.
In overtime, a penalty against the Grizzlies led to the game winner. Regan, perched at the bottom of the left circle, slammed in his seventh of the season to end the game at 4:34.
