Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Woodbridge, VA - Potomac's Brad Peacock entered Monday tied for the most losses in the Carolina League at nine. He departed having thrown the loop's third nine-inning complete-game shutout of the season, a five-hit blanking of the Blue Rocks (39-43, 7-5), 5-0. Wilmington's Tim Melville (2-10) came out on the wrong side of this meeting of the league's losingest hurlers, suffering his fourth straight defeat. Wilmington's sixth shutout loss of the season handed it two losses through three games on this seven-game road trip.

The Nationals (36-45, 5-6) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-out, two-run double by Nick Moresi in the first. It would be all the team would need.

Peacock (3-9) allowed the leadoff man to reach four times in the first six innings. None of those men would get beyond third base. In fact, after Salvador Perez singled with two down in the fourth, Peacock faced the minimum the rest of the way, retiring 15 of the last 16 he faced and the last 11 in a row. He struck out four and walked one tossing 99 pitches (64 strikes).

Melville allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over five frames, striking out two. Harold Mozingo tossed the final three innings out of the bullpen and gave up two more runs on four hits. Both scores came on a two-out, two-run triple from Jose Lozada.

The final out of the night came off the bat of Jamie Romak and required an awkward love by right fielder Michael Burgess who hit the wall thereafter but held on.

The four-game series concludes on Tuesday evening at 7:03 p.m. Wilmington's Ivor Hodgson (4-6, 4.97) returns to the rotation against fellow lefty Evan Bronson (3-5, 3.94).

PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:

The Blue Rocks suffered their sixth shutout of 2010, but just their second sine May 7.

No Blue Rock had more than one hit and Jamie Romak finished with the only extra-base knock, a leadoff double in the second.

Adrian Ortiz was caught stealing for the 11th time this season in 31 attempts after he began the third with a hit.

Eric Hosmer started the fourth with a hit, but center fielder Chris Curran thwarted his attempt to leg out a double with his throw to second baseman Steve Lombardozzi.

The Carolina League has seen six complete games this season, but only three nine-inning complete-game shutouts. One was tossed over two days by Wilmington's recently promoted southpaw Chris Dwyer in a suspended game. The other was a no-hitter by Frederick's Nathan Moreau.

The Keys' Rick Zagone allowed one run in a nine-inning CG against the Blue Rocks while Myrtle Beach's Matt Crim went eight innings for a complete game in a loss at Wilmington. Kinston's T.J. McFarland tossed six innings in a shortened contest for the only other CL CG this season.
