Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

The Blue Rocks (39-41, 7-4) made their own Fourth of July fireworks on Sunday in a 13-4 rout of the Potomac Nationals (35-45, 4-6). The Blue Crew set or tied season-high marks in runs, hits (19), home runs (4) and margin of victory. Lost in the shuffle was the dominant start of 19-year-old John Lamb (4-2), who struck out a career-best 10 over 6.2 scoreless innings.

The tone was set early when Hosmer blasted a two-run homer over all three levels of signage in right-center field with one out in the first inning against Marcos Frias. Later in the inning, Salvador Perez notched his first of four hits and first three of four RBIs with a double to right. Hosmer homered again in the third and Frias (2-4) was finished after two innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk.

His successor, Jesse Estrada, saw his first pitch leave the yard when Nick Francis launched his second homer of the season to left-center at the start of the third. That same frame, Jarrod Dyson and Christian Colon posted back-to-back run-scoring hits with two down for a 9-0 advantage.

Three more runs crossed in the fifth, starting with a bases-loaded walk to Francis that ended Estrada's time on the hill. Patrick McCoy allowed two inherited runners to cross thereafter on a Perez single and a Rey Navarro sacrifice fly. Jamie Romak tied Hosmer for the team lead in homers with a solo shot to left at the start of the seventh inning, his seventh home run of the year, making for a 13-0 advantage.

The gaudy lead was far from necessary with Lamb on the bump. The southpaw tossed 6.2 scoreless innings for the second time in three starts and retired 10 of the last 11 men he faced. James Thompson gave up four runs (two earned) over the final 2.1 innings. All of those runs crossed in the eighth.

The four-game series continues on Monday evening at 7:03 p.m. The league's leaders in losses face each other as Wilmington right-hander Tim Melville (2-9, 5.74) faces fellow righty Brad Peacock (2-9, 4.52).
