THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg fell 6-4 in the middle game of their series with Winston-Salem at City Stadium...After winning five out of six and three in a row, the Hillcats have lost their last four contests...Tonight is the final game of the three-game set with the Dash...
VS. WINSTON-SALEM: Lynchburg is 0-8 against Winston-Salem this season...The Dash have two three-game series sweeps of the Hillcats, the only two times this season they have been swept...Last season the Cats went 11-9 against the Dash and were 6-4 at City Stadium...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 155-151, and they are 87-69 in the Hill City...
YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO RENT HERE ANYMORE! Last night the Hillcats dropped their eighth straight game to start their 20-game season series with the Dash...Winston-Salem, which leads the Carolina League with a .295 batting average, is hitting .337 versus Lynchburg this season with 13 home runs in eight games...Lynchburg's pitching staff is fifth in the league with a 3.95 ERA, but against the Dash they are posting a 5.87 ERA...The Cats are batting .311 (11.5 hits per game) versus the Dash, but have only scored three and a half runs per contest (28 runs in eight games) against them...With their 15 hits last night the Green & Gold were just two shy of their season-high, but could only plate four runs in the middle-game defeat...
TRUST EXERCISE: Last night the Hillcats bullpen did not allow a run in three and 1/3 innings of action...They have gone four straight games without allowing a run (13 and 2/3 innings)...Lynchburg's bullpen ERA is now at 4.37, the lowest it has been since after the second game of the season...In the first two months of the season the Cats pen allowed 23-of-49 (47%) of inherited runners to score...Since then Lynchburg's relievers have allowed just 6-of-28 (21%) inherited runners to score to lower their total number to 38% (29-for-77)...
PRINCE FELIX: OF Felix Perez went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run last night...He has now hit in four straight games and in those contests he is a combined 10-for-19 (.526) with a double, three RBI and two runs scored...His four-hit performance matches the most hits in a game by a Hillcat this season and he was just the fourth Cat to accomplish the feat this year...Over the last four games Perez has raised his batting average from .200 to .359...
THE THIN PURPLE LINE: RHP Jordan Hotchkiss gave up a six runs on nine hits in five and 2/3 innings last night to take his second loss of the season...The right-hander was one out away from getting through six innings with three runs allowed (a quality start) when he gave up a three-run home run that brought his night to an end...All six of the runs the Dash scored against him were accounted for with two, three-run homers...The six earned runs and nine hits were a career-high for Hotchkiss who had not given up more than two runs in an outing this season...In four appearances (one start) against Winston-Salem, he is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA (eight earned runs in nine and 1/3 innings) and a blown save...Four of the six homers he has given up have been to the Dash...
EXTRA, EXTRA: UTIL Cody Puckett went 2-for-5 with a double and a run last night...His team-high 26 doubles is also tied for first in the Carolina League...Puckett's 40 extra-base hits leads the league, his 10 home runs is tied for fifth in the circuit and his .507 slugging percentage is fifth in the CL...
WHAT'S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT: Last night OF Kyle Day went 1-for-4...He has hit in four straight games and in his last nine contests he is now 12-for-31 (.387) with two doubles, a triple, a grand slam, eight RBI, six runs scored, five walks and three steals...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Charles Leesman was selected by the White Sox in the 11th round of the 2008 draft out of Xavier University...His final season with the Musketeers he went 2-6 with a 5.32 ERA in 13 starts...That same year he made his professional debut with Bristol where he tossed two games, earned a save, and did not allow a run in five and 1/3 innings...He also made one start for full season Low-A Kannapolis that season and he did not allow an earned run in four and 2/3 innings of action...Last season he returned to the Intimidators and posted a 13-5 mark with a 3.08 ERA in 27 starts...This season he progressed to Advanced-A Winston-Salem and has gone 8-4 with a 5.42 ERA in 16 starts for the Dash ans he currently is second in the Carolina League in wins...Leesman entered the season as the 27th ranked prospect in the White Sox minor league system according to Baseball America...In his lone start against Lynchburg he allowed three runs in five and 2/3 innings of work to earn the victory on May 23rd...
