Kinston Indians News Release

A five-run seventh inning by Frederick led to a 11-3 blowout win over the K-Tribe on Monday night at Grainger Stadium. Kinston (6-5, 42-39) took the series from Frederick two games to one.

Frederick started the onslaught in the first inning against K-Tribe starter Joey Mahalic. Kyle Hudson walked and Jacob Julius roped a double to left center field to score Hudson and give the Keys a 1-0 lead. In the third, Miguel Abreu's RBI double made it 2-0. The Keys added three more in the fourth on an RBI single by Brian Ward and a two-run single by Xavier Avery to extend the lead to 5-0.

Kinston rallied in the bottom of the fourth against Frederick starter Nathan Moreau. Karexon Sanchez singled and scored on an RBI double by Jeremie Tice. Doug Pickens followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2.

The Keys blew the game open with a five-run seventh inning. Buck Britton hit an RBI single, Pedro Florimon belted a two-run triple, and Ward and Avery added RBI singles to give the Keys a 10-2 lead. The five runs in an inning matched a season high allowed by K-Tribe pitching. Ten men came to the plate and there were six hits, which were both season highs against the Indians. In the eighth, Billy Rowell blasted a solo homer to dead center field that cleared the 25-foot high batter's eye to make it 11-2. Kinston plated a run in the bottom of the inning on an Abner Abreu RBI double.

Mahalic (3-3) took the loss after his roughest outing of the season. He gave up five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Moreau (2-0), coming off of a nine inning no-hitter in his Carolina League debut last Wednesday at Salem, gave up two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out four.

Kinston will have an off day on Tuesday and then continue the homestand with a three-game set against the Salem Red Sox on Wednesday night at 7 pm. T.J. House will pitch for the K-Tribe.
