PawSox Erupt in 12th Inning, Win 9-3

One night after playing a game in two and a quarter hours, the PawSox played a marathon against the Bats in Kentucky, winning 9-3 in 12 innings. The game lasted 4 hours and 8 minutes.

The Bats scored the first two runs of the game and had a 2-0 lead after three innings. Chris Valaika homered and Denis Phipps singled in a run. The PawSox scored single runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings. Tied 3-3 heading into extra innings, Pawtucket scored 6 times on 6 hits in the twelfth. Ryan Lavarnway doubled, Lars Anderson walked and Mauro Gomez singled, to break the tie. The PawSox scored 5 more runs. A two run double by J.C. Linares, another by Jon Hee and an RBI by Nate Spears capped the scoring.

Hee came in to pitch the twelfth and retired the Bats in order. Clay Mortensen (5-3) earned the win. Chris Hernandez had a successful first outing in Triple A. The lefthander allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. He struck out 4 hitters.

The series finale is slated for Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Billy Buckner (1-5) pitches for the PawSox (57-46), in second in the North, a half game behind the Yankees.
