PawSox Clinch Wild Card with Win over Yankees
September 1, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
The PawSox punched their ticket to the 2012 International League playoffs on Saturday night at McCoy Stadium, blanking the Yankees, 2-0. Pawtucket earned the Wild Card berth thanks to the pitching of Nelson Figueroa and the hitting of Dan Butler. Figueroa fired 8 shutout innings, scattering 4 hits and striking out 6 hitters. Josh Fields tossed a scoreless ninth for the save.
Butler smashed a pair of solo home runs to account for the PawSox offensive output. They came in the sixth and seventh innings. The PawSox make the playoffs for the third time since 2008 and the second year in a row.
Games one and two will be played here in Pawtucket on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Tickets are available by calling 401-724-7300 or by logging onto www.pawsox.com.
The same two clubs play Sunday at McCoy at 6:05 p.m with a post-game fireworks spectacular to follow the game.
