Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Alex Torres led the charge as the Bulls shutout the Knights 2-0 in the final home game of the Bulls regular season. The Bulls combined for 15 strikeouts as the team snapped a four game losing streak.
Torres was magnificent in his first start since returning from the DL earlier this week. Torres hurled 5.2 shutout innings before he reached his pinch count in the top of the sixth. He struck out a season-high 10 batters in the outing and retired 12 of the last 13 batters faced. Upon leaving the mound, he received a standing ovation from the 9,431 fans in attendance at the DBAP.
Despite Torre's outstanding performance, neither team managed to break the scoreless game until Brooks Conrad stepped to the plate in the bottom of sixth frame. With a runner on first, Conrad crushed the first pitch he saw over the right field wall, giving Durham a 2-0 edge.
The Bulls-pen did the rest of the work. Ryan Reid and Frank De Los Santos combined for 2.0 scoreless innings to make way for closer Dane De La Rosa. The right handed reliever was called on to make a four out save. After ending the eighth with a pop up, De La Rosa struck out the side to earn his 20th save of the season.
The Bulls hit the road for the final time in the 2012 season for a two game series in Charlotte. RHP Chris Archer (7-9, 3.76) will take the mound for the Bulls and face Knights RHP Andre Rienzo (NR).
