Charlotte Knights News Release
(Fort Mill, SC) - The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contract of infielder Dan Johnson from the Charlotte Knights, and also recalled right-handed pitchers Deunte Heath and Brian Omogrosso, as announced earlier today by Chicago. Johnson becomes the 18th different player this season to go from Charlotte to Chicago.
Johnson was hitting .267 with an International League-high 28 home runs. He ranked second in the IL in RBIs (85), first in walks (94), first in games played (137), third in on-base percentage (.388), fourth in runs scored (77), and fifth in slugging percentage (.492).
Earlier this week, Johnson was named to the IL Postseason All-Star Team as the squad's utility player. He was also a Mid-Season All-Star and finished second in the 2012 Triple-A Home Run Derby in Buffalo, NY.
Heath, 27, posted a 4-3 mark with a 1.48 ERA and three saves for the Knights in 36 games (67.0 innings). This is Heath's second promotion to Chicago this season. Heath was promoted to Chicago on July 4, but did not pitch for the White Sox.
Omogrosso, 28, posted a 0-2 mark with a 4.56 ERA and nine saves for the Knights in 33 games (47.1 innings). This is also Omogrosso's second promotion to Chicago. Earlier this season, the Beaver, PA native went 0-0 with a 4.26 ERA in five games for Chicago.
Also, infielder Orlando Hudson and left-handed pitcher Leyson Septimo, who were on a Major League rehab assignment with Charlotte, were both returned to Chicago and activated off the disabled list by the White Sox.
Added to the Knights roster today were two players. OF Brandon Short, a 28thround selection of the White Sox in the 2008 draft, has been promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham. Short began the season on Charlotte's disabled list and had since appeared in 10 games with Winston-Salem and 10 games with Birmingham. He had a .214 batting average (9-42) with the Double-A Barons this year.
RHP Ryan Kussmaul, 25, was also added to Charlotte's roster today. The Wisconsin native was 2-1 with a 1.11 ERA and three saves in 57 games for the Barons this season.
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
