PawSox and Bisons Split Twin Bill

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- After ending Buffalo's nine-game winning streak with an 8-3 victory in the opener of a doubleheader Thursday, the Pawtucket Red Sox settled for a split, falling by a 4-0 final in Game 2.
In Game 1, they went without a baserunner until one out in the 5th inning, after falling behind, 3-0. But the Sox chased Buffalo starter Dave Bush (L, 2-1) from an 11-batter, eight-run top of the 6th.
Drew Sutton pulled Pawtucket within 3-2 with a two-run triple and scored the tying run on Brandon Snyder's single. After issuing a walk, Bush gave way to reliever Mickey Storey, who surrendered a three-run home to Jeremy Hazelbaker, his fifth, to give the Sox a 6-3 lead. Jose Iglesias reached on an infield single and Dan Butler capped the scoring with a two-run homer.
Meanwhile, right-hander Charlie Haeger (W, 1-0) recovered from early home runs by Mauro Gomez and Ryan Langerhans and completed 5.0 innings en route to his first victory. Joe De La Torre preserved the margin by working the 6th and 7th innings.
The Bisons rebounded in the back end of the twin bill with a leadoff home run by Mike McCoy and another solo shot, with two outs, by Luis Jimenez in the bottom of the 1st inning. Pawtucket starter Graham Godfrey (L, 1-2) later allowed an RBI single by Gomez, before Buffalo scored its final run on a fielder's choice.
Veteran Ramon Ortiz (W, 1-0), who worked the first 5.0 innings, combined with Bobby Korecky to limit the PawSox to five hits, as they were shut out for the second time in five days.
The four-game series finale and final contest of an eight-day road trip is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. on Friday, when lefty Chris Hernandez (0-2, 3.86) tries to pitch Pawtucket to a series split, opposite Claudio Vargas (2-0, 1.59).
