January 21, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Allen, TX (Jan. 21st) - Kent Patterson stopped all 25 shots he saw and four different players found the net as Wichita grabbed a 4-0 victory over Allen on Saturday night at the Allen Event Center.
Vincent Arseneau led the way for the Thunder with a goal and two assists. Gerrad Grant, Macoy Erkamps and David Friedmann also lit the lamp.
The only goal of the first period came three minutes in when Arseneau fired a shot from the right circle off the rush and beat Jamie Murray to make it 1-0. The two teams combined for 30 penalty minutes in the opening frame and Wichita led 16-4 in the shot department through 20 minutes.
Wichita added three in the second period and two in the first four minutes. Grant took a nice pass from Arseneau and beat Murray through the five-hole to make it 2-0. At 3:41, Erkamps recorded his second professional goal with a one-timer from the right hash mark and made it 3-0. Wichita had a 7-1 shot-advantage at one point before the Americans fired the next nine shots on net. Friedmann potted his first in a Thunder uniform at 15:01 as his backhand from in-close got through Murray and rolled over the line to make it 4-0.
In the third, the Thunder held off an early charge from the Americans. Patterson made some key saves, including one in the first two minutes during a net-mouth scramble as he extended his leg across the goal line and kept the puck out. Allen finished the final period with 10 shots, but Patterson was too good and held on for the shutout victory.
Patterson's shutout is the first for a Thunder netminder this season and his sixth of his career. Friedmann recorded his first goal in a Wichita uniform and his eighth of the season. Patterson won for the fourth time this year, stopping all 25 shots. Murray suffers the loss, stopping 23 of 27 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Allen was 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Thunder closes the weekend with an afternoon tilt starting at 4:05 p.m. against Allen.
