Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill.- Michael Parks provided the deciding shootout goal after scoring and adding an assist in regulation as the host Quad City Mallards (20-16-2) rallied from a 4-1 third period deficit for a 5-4 shootout victory over the Missouri Mavericks (14-17-7) Friday night

The Mallards' comeback delivered victory for Phil Axtell in his first game as the team's interim head coach.

Parks fired home the shootout winner after Chris Francis had first given the Mallards the shootout lead only for Radoslav Illo to even it up for Missouri.

The Mallards stormed back in the third by scoring three times in four minutes and 33 seconds and ripping off the final two goals of that onslaught in a span of just 31 seconds. Pavel Jenys kicked off the revival by roofing Parks' centering pass at 7:19. Justin Kovacs' centering feed enabled Jack Nevins to trim the margin to 4-3 at the 11:21 mark. Moments later Alex Gudbranson raced into the right wing circle and wristed in the dramatic game tier.

The Mallards' third period assault came in reply to a run of four straight Maverick goals. After Parks broke in alone to open the scoring just 35 seconds into the game Kevin Tansey's wrist shot from the right point evened the contest at one at 10:43 of the first period. Missouri was on the power play Rocco Carzo's tip-in snapped the 1-1 deadlock at 3:02 of the second period. Just two minutes and 12 seconds later, Dan Correale extended the gap to 3-1 from the left wing circle. Mallard misery was compounded a mere 24 seconds into the third period when Dane Fox- who also had an assist- raced in on net to pump the fourth Maverick goal in under the crossbar, but the Mallards were far from finished.
