With the Mavericks and Mallards meeting for the second time in as many days, the first period showcased a healthy dislike between the clubs. Andrew Courtney began the fireworks on his opening shift with an open-ice hit on Grant Arnold, and knocked the Mallards' forward off his skates. Hostilities continued as Tyler Elbrecht dropped the gloves with Jack Nevins at 7:53, and a skirmish broke out after Jacob Doty made contact with Quad City goalie C.J. Motte at 13:58 of the first.

Away from the physical play, each team produced a marker in the first. Quad City grabbed the early lead when Pavel Jenys broke free on the right wing and sent a low wrist shot past Missouri's Josh Robinson at 4:21. The Mavericks answered back at 9:52 when Darren Nowick blasted home his 13th of the season. The goal extended Nowick's point streak to a career-best five games and gave him eight points (3g, 5a) over the streak.

Motte stole the show in the second period as the Mallards' goaltender denied each of the 10 shots the Mavericks sent his way. Carter Verhaeghe had the best chance for a tiebreaking goal with a wraparound try, but Motte got back to the post for the save. The Mavericks' defense gave Robinson a light workload in the second by limiting the Mallards to four shots on goal.

Verhaeghe eventually got the best of Motte with a power play goal 4:07 into the third period that gave the Mavericks their first lead of the night. Verhaeghe also assisted on Nowick's first-period goal and earned his sixth multi-point game in eight contests with the Mavericks this season.

Quad City's leading goal scorer, Michael Parks, drew the game back to even just before the midway point of the third period. A fluky bounce of the puck in the right-wing circle left Robinson out of position and Parks was able to lift a shot under the crossbar for his 16th of the season.

Missouri responded just over 95 seconds later with its leading scorer, Dane Fox, netting his 15th of the season. The go-ahead goal was scored off of a setup by Dan Correale and Ryan Obuchowski, and it gave Fox 10 points (4g, 6a) in his last five games.

Verhaeghe and Radoslav Illo each added empty-net goals and salted away the win after the Mallards pulled Motte for an extra attacker.

Robinson earned his seventh win of the season with 13 saves on the night. The Mavericks went 1-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
