The Week in Review
December 27th /07- Regina Pats -2 @ Brandon Wheat Kings -1
The Regina Pats opened up their post Christmas schedule Thursday night in Brandon, with a 1st place match up against the Wheat Kings. The Wheat Kings would strike early as defencemen Keith Aulie scored just 2 minutes into the contest, making the score 1-0. The Pats would respond by dominating the shot clock, outshooting the Wheaties 16 - 4 in the 1st period. The hard work would pay off with 7 minutes remaining in the period as Winnipeg native Kirt Hill (6) scored to knot things up at 1-1 after one. In the 2nd frame the Pats would continue to pepper the Wheat Kings and again it would pay off as team leader Jordan Eberle (25) scored to make the score 2-1, with only 3 minutes remaining in the period. The Pats would shut the door after that, as Linden Rowat made 19 saves for his 18th win of the season. The game was a very discipline one for both squad's as the two teams combined for only 8 penalty minutes. The Pats went 0 for 1 on the powerplay, while the Wheat Kings finished 1 for 3.
December 29th /07- Regina Pats - 3 @ Saskatoon Blades -2 SO
The Regina Pats and Saskatoon Blades met up in the 1st game of a home and home series between the two division rivals Saturday night in Saskatoon. The scoring opened up midway through the 1st period when Kirt Hill (7) beat Blades goalie Braden Holtby , to make the score 1-0. The Blades would respond before the period was out as Walker Wintoneak notched his 7th of the season to knot things at one after one. After a scoreless a 2nd period, which saw the Pats kill off 6 powerplay opportunities, the Blades would take their first lead of the hockey game 3 minutes into the 3rd period when European defencemen Jyri Niemi beat a screened Jeff Bosch to take the 2-1 lead. The Pats would battle back with a powerplay goal of their own when Colten Teubert's (4) point shot eluded Holtby to move the game to overtime. In the extra frame nothing could be solved, which moved the game to a shootout. In the shootout the Pats would score on both of their opportunities, while the Blades would be shutdown on both of theirs giving the Pats a 3-2 shootout victory. Jeff Bosch made 34 of 36 saves in the victory for the Pats, while Braden Holtby suffered his league leading 18th loss. The Pats went 2 for 11 with the man advantage while the Blades were 2 for 12 on the powerplay.
December 30th /07- Regina Pats - 1 Vs. Saskatoon Blades - 2
The Regina Pats entered Sunday's content looking to move their winning streak to three games as the WHL's worst road team the Saskatoon Blades visited the Brandt Centre. It would be the Pats who would strike first as a Colten Teubert (5) scored a rebound goal off Nick Ross's shot to make the score 1-0. The Blades would respond as former Pat forward Derek Hulak (8) scored before the period was out to knot things up at one apiece after one. In the 2nd period Walker Wintoneak scored to put the Blades up for good as the Blades would trap their way to a 2-1 victory. In the 3rd period the Pats outshot the Blades 8-0 but could not beat goaltender Braden Holtby. The Pats were 0 for 6 on the powerplay while the Blades went 0 for 5.
Who's Hot
Pats' sophomore forward Jordan Eberle picked up where he left off after having a very strong 1st half of the season the 18 year old forward scored the winning goal in Thursday night's tilt in Brandon as well as recording an assist on Kirt Hill's 1st period goal in Saskatoon ... Eberle then went on to score the overtime winner beat Blades netminder Braden Holtby ... The Regina native currently sits in 14th spot in the WHL scoring race with 25 goals and 16 assists ...
Pats At the World Under 17 Challenge
The Regina Pats will send two players to the World Under 17 Challenge in London, Ontario. Forward Garrett Mitchell and defencemen Alex Pym will play for team Western this upcoming December. The two players will be playing games from December 29th until January 4th; missing three of the Pats games. Mitchell and Pym were also selected to be co-captains for Team West at the tournament. So far in the tournament Team West is 2-0 with wins over Germany and Team Atlantic. In those 2 games Mitchell has recorded 1 assist, while Pym has been very big part of Team West's defensive scheme but has been held off the score sheet.
Pats at World Junior Tournament
Head Coach Curtis Hunt will once again be joining the Canadian National Junior team this December. Team Canada's camp started Monday, December 10th, so Curtis's last game with the Pats was Sunday afternoons tilt with the Kelowna Rockets. Hunt will miss up to 9 games as Team Canada goes for their fourth straight Gold medal.
The Pats will also lose their captain Logan Pyett. Pyett who has been a leader all season for the Pats left for the Czech Republic leading the Pats defencemen with 13 goals and 15 assists. So far in the World Junior tournament Pyett has recorded 1 assist in 3 games played.
NHL Preliminary Draft Rankings:
The National Hockey League released its preliminary rankings for the 2008 Entry Draft this week, with three Regina Pats making the grade. Pats defencemen ,Colten Teubert is ranked #3, while forward Jordan Eberle is #8 and Matt Delahey is # 16.
The top ranked WHL player is Everett Silvertips forward Kyle Beach.

The Regina Pats have put more players on the Canadian World Junior Team than any other CHL team, putting 18 players on the team for 23 total appearances.
