Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants have finished off 2007 tied for top spot in the Western Hockey League as they prepare to play four games in a stretch of five days this week.
Last Thursday, the Giants returned from the WHL holiday break with a 3-2 win at home over the Kamloops Blazers. Garry Nunn scored his first two goals in WHL on a night which saw Vancouver out-shoot the opposition 35-26.
On Saturday, Vancouver scored four times on the power play on route to a 5-2 win over the visiting Kelowna Rockets. Craig Schira had two goals and two assists in Vancouver's final home game of 2007. The Giants have won their last seven straight games at the Pacific Coliseum.
Last night, the Giants earned a point on the road falling 5-4 in a shoot-out to the Kamloops Blazers. Each club required seven players to take part in the shoot-out, a new Giants record. It was also a night that saw the Giants season-high eight-game winning streak come to an end.
With an overall record of 26-7-1-4, the Giants are in a tie with the Spokane Chiefs for first place in the WHL. The club will be back on the road for their first game of 2008 Wednesday January 2 against the Kelowna Rockets (7:00pm PST). The Giants will then play host to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday January 4 (7:30pm PST). The two clubs will play each other the next night at the Key Arena in Seattle (7:05pm). Vancouver will conclude their weekend at the Pacific Coliseum when they entertain the Kamloops Blazers Sunday January 6 (5:00pm).
