Regina Pats News Release

First Period

The Blue and White found themselves on the wrong side of the momentum early on as the Broncos jumped out to two overlapping powerplays. The Pats killed off the pair of advantages, but Swift Current kept on the pressure and would score first. Chance Lund forced his way into the middle of the ice and snapped the puck high past Teagan Sacher to give the Broncos the lead. The Pats struggled to find offence as they didn't register a shot until the twelve minute mark of the frame. The Broncos would take advantage of those struggles and add to the lead. Tanner LeSann scooped up a bouncing puck at his own blue-line, fended off Darian Henry on the breakaway and forced the puck past Sacher to put Swift Current up 2-0 after twenty minutes. The Broncos led the shot count 9-4 after the first.

Second Period

Needing a spark early in the second period, the Pats Player of the Year would answer the call. Lane Scheidl stepped into the slot and laced a wrist shot by Eetu Laurikainen for his 41st goal and 80th point on the season. After some back and forth play through the middle part of the period, the Broncos turned up the heat in the late stages. Levi Bews restored the two goal lead off a quick backhand shot that beat Sacher five-hole. Shortly after, Darian Henry found himself in the box and the Bronco powerplay broke an oh-for-seven slide against the Pats as Reece Scarlett pounded home the 4-1 goal. It wouldn't take Regina long to respond as Trent Ouellette tipped a Darian Henry point shot past Laurikainen to get the Pats back within two, 4-2 after forty minutes. The Broncos held sway over the shot clock, leading 21-12 after two.

Third Period

The Pats got off to another slow start in the final frame as it would take nearly thirteen minutes for the Blue and White to get their first shot on goal. The Broncos added to their lead in the third with a pair of markers. Just after a Pats penalty expired, Brycen Martin found Ryon Moser in the right face-off dot and he snapped the puck to the back of the Pats goal. Swift Current made it 6-2 when Colby Cave took advantage of a Pat falling at the Broncos blue-line and scored on the ensuing breakaway. The Pats would add some pressure late with a powerplay, but they couldn't beat Laurikainen again and the Blue and White fell in their final game of the 2012-13 season, 6-2 in Swift Current.

With the season coming to a close, Lane Scheidl officially captured the Pats scoring title with 80 points on the season and was the winner of the Molson Cup with Matt Hewitt taking second in the Molson Cup race.
