Game Story

Exactly 12 minutes into the game, the Pats grabbed the lead in Red Deer. Adam Brooks directed a shot to the net that goaltender Rylan Toth couldn't corral. Brooks raced around the net and tapped it in on the far side for the opening goal. Following the marker, the Pats found themselves in penalty trouble via three straight penalties including a five-on-three. The Rebels took advantage of the two man advantage when Ivan Nikolishin fired around a screen to tie the game 1-1. The goaltenders got their work in with Tyler Brown making ten saves and Toth turning away nine shots.

It only took 1:18 for the Pats to jump back in front. Rykr Cole raced into the zone on the left wing and snapped a shot that redirected off a defender's stick before knuckling into the goal. Before the frame was five minutes old, the Rebels tied the game when Conner Bleackley found a loose puck in front and pumped it to the back of the net. A mere 13 seconds later, Sam Steel opened up Taylor Cooper on the wing. His shot fooled the Rebels netminder to put Regina back in front. That score held through the period for a 3-2 Pats advantage into the third.

The third period saw the Rebels go on the attack early, but the Pats penalty kill stood up and got a big early stop. Then it was on to a grind it out frame that saw the teams trade chances, but not add to the scoreboard. The Queen City Kids went on the defensive late when a high-sticking double minor put them on the penalty kill for the final 2:50 of the game. The penalty killers held the Rebels to just a pair of shots. One of those was a great chance on an Ivan Nikolishin one-timer, but Tyler Brown flashed out his pad to take away the chance and send the Pats to a 3-2 win.

Quick Hits

- Tyler Brown was named the first star, making 33 saves in the win.
