Pats 2021-22 Home Opener Set for October 2
June 16, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
REGINA - One of the most anticipated home openers in Regina Pats history finally has a date.
On Saturday, October 2 the Pats will welcome their loyal fans back to the Brandt Centre to open the home portion of their 2021-22 WHL season against the Prince Albert Raiders.
Wednesday's news came a day after the WHL announced that Friday, October 1 would be the league's opening night. The Regiment will travel to Prince Albert that evening for a long-awaited matchup with the Raiders.
The Pats home opener will be fans first regular season in-person look at 2020-21 WHL Rookie of the Year Connor Bedard and the rest of the 2021-22 Pats in the Queen City.
"There is no experience in hockey quite like playing in front of a hometown crowd; it creates a special energy," says Regina Pats General Manager, John Paddock. "Spending last season skating in an empty building was tough; we've missed our fans and we're excited to deliver some really great hockey for them this year."
A total of 570 days will have passed since the Pats last played in front of a hometown crowd; March 11, 2020 was the last time fans were inside the Brandt Centre before the 2019-20 season ended abruptly due to COVID-19.
Last season, Regina finished 9-12-2-1 during the abbreviated 2020-21 WHL schedule, played without fans inside the East Division Hub.
Details on Pats pre-season games are scheduled to be released on Monday, June 21, while fans can look forward to more details on 2021-22 ticket sales in the next few weeks.
