
Patriots take series over Road Warriors with 6-2 win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Road Warriors 6-2 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Henri Stanley walked, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on an error following right fielder Larry Barnes' single.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the second inning. Catcher Travis Anderson walked and scored on Stanley's RBI single to make the score 2-0.
The Patriots continued to roll with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Third baseman Nick Ortiz singled, moved to second on Barnes' base hit, and went to third when designated hitter Lou Lucca walked to load the bases. Catcher Tommy Rojas hit a single to score Ortiz and left fielder Elliott Ayala hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Lucca. Second baseman George Sandel drove in Rojas with an RBI single.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-0 lead on Rojas' solo home run (2) to left field.
The Road Warriors put up two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Third baseman David Housel doubled and scored on second baseman Teuris Olivares' two-run home run (15) to cut the lead to 6-2.
Patriots starting pitcher Sam McConnell (1-3) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on ten hits and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Road Warriors starting pitcher Chris Steinborn (1-7) suffered the loss, giving up five runs - four earned - on seven hits in three innings pitched.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game on Friday evening against the Long Island Ducks. Friday' s game includes a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by The Provident Bank.
